September means that the population of the metro area increases exponentially, parking spots get scarce, and lines to clubs get longer, but it also means that there are more touring bands coming through; take the good with the not so good. On Thursday night Glenn Tilbrook of Squeeze brings his pop song mastery to Brighton Music Hall and at Redstar Union in Kendall Square has The Field Effect, The Singhs, and Aaron Perrino of the Sheila Divine. On Friday there’s Triple Thick and Black Cheers at Radio and over at Tavern at the End of the World, Vicki Porter performs. Saturday is Day 1 of Boston Calling with Vampire Weekend, The Gaslight Anthem, Deer Tick, Okervill River and more at City Hall Plaza. Saturday night has a big show at the Middle East Downstairs with Barrence Whitfield and the Savages, Jittery Jack, Downbeat 5, and Muck and the Mires.

Also on Saturday night, James Straight and the Wide Stance are at Copperfield’s. Sunday is Day 2 of Boston Calling with local faves Passion Pit playing. Sunday is the first night of the 40th Anniversary week at TT’s with Permafrost, Sarah Rabadau, and the Self-Employed Assassins, and Eldridge Rodriquez. On Monday it’s the second night of the TT’s celebration with The Grownup Noise, The Luxury, The Shods, and The Life Electric and on Monday Suuns is at Great Scott.

Tuesday has Peter Hook (founding member of Joy Division and New Order) and his band The Light at the Paradise and at TT’s there’s more Anniversary Week celebrations with The Raging Teens, Old Jack, Roy Sludge, Matt Heaton and the Electric Heaters, and Comanchero. Wednesday night there’s Volcano Choir (with Bon Iver’s Justin Vernon) at the Paradise; another night of festivities at TT’s and there’s also the screening of the Morrissey’s concert film at the Brattle.

Amy’s Shows List began many years ago as an email list and continues as one to inspire people to catch live music around town. It was featured on Boston Band Crush and is now The Dig.

My email is AmysShowsList@gmail.com if you have shows to add or want to be on the complete email list (which lists shows far into the future).
